The Red Cross have free first aid teaching resources that will help you educate studentsBonfire Night is just around the corner and as well as being one of the most fun nights of the year, it can also be one of the most dangerous. Every year, hundreds of people need hospital treatment for burns injuries in the run-up to Bonfire Night.
Help your pupils to keep safe and understand the risks of Bonfire Night with a short video clip from the British Red Cross on how to treat burns that can be viewed on their website(a BSL signed version of the video is also available).
The video is part of the hugely successful Life. Live it. first aid education kit which has been designed so that teachers with no prior first aid experience can teach basic skills to their pupils. The kit is also an excellent resource for teaching staying safe, risk management and decision-making skills, in line with the PSHE curriculum. Free samples of lesson plans from the kit can be downloaded from the Red Cross website.
The British Red Cross website has a comprehensive – and attention-grabbing – range of teaching resources, meaning you can hit the ground running and engage students from the outset. Also found on this useful website is a case study section - First Aid Heroes - where you will find true stories to demonstrate how a knowledge of first aid will benefit your pupils. Plus if you are looking for guidance on how First Aid fits into the National Curriculum, there is a teachers guidance section outlining how first aid education fits with national curricula requirements for 11-14 year olds throughout the UK. Teachers can also watch a new video for teachers to find out just how easy teaching first aid in the classroom can be.
