Key Stage 1 & 2 Art Lesson Plan Ideas >

The new term is here so we thought we\'d bring you 6 of the best online Art resources

Getting your mind back into it and thinking up lesson plans for key stage 1 and key stage 2 classes is not always easy, so we thought we'd give you a helping hand by sumarising 6 excellent Art teaching resource websites out there.

Art Attack - website to support the Art Attack television programme.  Children can meet the presenter Neil Buchanan and there are hundreds of interesting ideas for your art lesson plans plus you can download a poster of Neil!

Art Pad - a digital version of paints and paper with free frames to hang the masterpieces with, you can even watch other people’s paintings come to life in the gallery section. Children will love splashing a whole tin of paint over their paper and you’ll love not having to clear up after them.

Crayola - Create your own dreamtime symbols in the style of modern Aboriginal culture. This loose lesson plan gives activities for children to do, focusing on art in Australia, including drawing in the style of Aboriginal art, drawing their favourite Australian animal and finding out where Australia is on a map.  The site also has lots of other lesson plans for key stage 1 and 2 classes.

Crickweb - A fantastic early years art teaching website to encourage children to identify different colours and use the computer. Inspired by "paint by numbers" this useful art teaching resource uses simple drawings and an interactive animation to get children to copy an already painted image. Pictures progress in difficulty and children are awarded a certificate at the end of the colouring in session.

Fable Vision - Tracing Ace is a fun way for children to learn how to draw common objects in a cartoon style such as cats or ducks. There are only four examples available to print out and use in the lesson but this is a great way to work on cartoon work within the classroom.

I am an Artist - A lovely website that covers everything from clay modeling through to fabric and fibres. It uses a variety of media including short video clips, an interactive website plus factsheets and weblinks to bring art classes to life. Curriculum links are made to the Irish curriculum but it should be easy for teachers to map lessons to their own curriculum.

We hope these 6 helpful websites for key stage 1 and 2 art lesson planning get your ideas flowing, here's to a great new term!
