The FoodAid website from Concern Worldwide is designed to communicate the realities of hunger and malnutrition

Concern Worldwide is an international humanitarian organisation dedicated to reducing suffering and ending extreme poverty. Their FoodAid website is aimed at getting schools involved in the education of the realities of hunger and malnutrition.  There are free teaching resources to help educate children at key stages 1 and 2, including lesson plans, fact sheets, assembly presentations and poster, plus the website shows teachers how they can involve their school in fundraising.

FoodAid is about helping people make long-term changes to their lives. It’s about securing reliable sources of food, helping to reduce people’s dependency on aid.  The website is good and has a useful teachers section where you will find the lesson plans and factsheets to explore food issues with your class.  Each lesson plan is user-friendly and has clear links with key stages 1 and 2 of the citizenship curriculum giving teachers and pupils the opportunity to explore some key questions: "what is hunger and malnutrition?" and "why are people hungry?".  To support the lesson plans there are downloadable factsheets that can be used as handout materials and for Assemblies there is a free downloadable Assembly PDF and accompanying material.  Finally to brighten up your classroom there are informative posters available for download.

If you want to get your school involved and really get your pupils thinking and learning, it’s easy to take part. Simply organise a fundraising event at your school to coincide with harvest festival or World Food Day, which takes place annually on 16 October. There are lots of fundraising ideas on the website and you can register for a free pack.
