Free Lesson Plans on Wind Power and Energy >

The BWEA website has free activities and teaching resources covering Wind Power and Renewable Energy

BWEA is the leading renewable energy trade association in the UK with a primary purpose to promote the use of wind, wave and tidal power in and around the UK.  Their website offers several Wind Power and Renewable Energy Georaphy and Science teaching resources and lesson plans for all key stages.

Wind has been the world's fastest growing renewable energy source for the last seven years, and this trend is expected to continue with falling costs of wind energy and the urgent international need to tackle CO2 emissions to prevent climate change.

The BWEA website has lots of useful information and pictures that teachers and students can use in the classroom and for school projects. The site has an easy to understand introduction to wind energy in which the basic facts of generating electricity from the wind is explained, there is also a handy frequently asked questions section and a reference section for more in-depth answers. Plus for field trips teachers can take a look at maps of wind energy in the UK for details of wind farms in your area!

The site has free educational booklets covering Wind Power at key stage 1, key stage 2, key stage 3 and key stage 4 to download for use in the classroom.  The booklets have been produced by AMEC Wind following teacher placements at Blyth Harbour wind farm in Northumberland.  Each booklet includes several activity sheets which can be used as an introduction to wind power plus a teacher briefing sheet which describes how to organise and run a lesson plan.
