The Bina programme is a paid for education resource, from the Divine Communications Trust, for PSHE at Key Stage 3The Bina programme is a paid for education resource, from the Divine Communications Trust, for key stage 3 PSHE teachers and pupils. It focuses on improving three key skills: critical thinking, literacy and communication, with an objective of preparing pupils for the opportunities, challenges and experiences of life.
The Divine Communication's mission is to make a difference in the lives of the next generation; equipping them with the social skills and values they require growing up to become responsible citizens.
The programme uses graphic illustrated stories about four teenagers, to create a platform for teachers to help pupils learn how to make logical decisions. The illustrated stories focus on six themes:
• Integrity
• Respect
• Dealing with disappointment
• Reliability
• Accountability
• Courage
For each theme, pupils are set logical-thinking questions based on the illustrated story, with emphasis not on the ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers or opinions, but on the process of how they have reached their answers/opinions. The subsequent debate and discussion encourages them to investigate each other’s opinions freely but constructively; helping build confidence in their logical thinking/ problem-solving, decision making and communication skills. The whole process gives teachers a better understanding of their pupils’ thoughts and opinions so they can address any area(s) of concern where necessary.
