Essential School Equipment for the Start of the New Term

Thursday 1st September 2011

Schools are encouraging parents to consider purchasing iPads for their children to use for their studying at home and at school.More and more schools around the country are understanding the benefits of pupils having access to iPads, and as the battery life and weight of the iPad makes it ideal for learning.

The Telegraph reported this week that Longfield Academy in Kent was starting an experimental scheme with parents that allow them to equip their child with an iPad 2 in return for a donation. This includes insurance, a protective case and a selection of apps. Longfield says it prefers Apple’s iPad because “hardware reviews have shown life expectancy and performance of Apple’s hardware to outlive traditional PC specifications”.  In Northern Ireland another school allows parents to buy an iPad for £170 as part of their own scheme.

Although there are other tablets available the choice of educational apps is more limited. For example Penguin has made several educational apps for Apple devices but have yet to produce Android equivalents.
