Monday 18th July 2011
If you’re looking for some down to earth, practical teaching ideas for the last few weeks of the summer term, that your young students will love, check out the RSPCA’s website. The RSPCA have a section dedicated to education where teachers can find information on how to make your school more animal friendly by teaching children about animal welfare. Not only do they offer lesson plans on how to teach your pupils about the care of animals, the website has free downloadable assembly ideas to encourage good responsible pet ownership, primary and secondary assemblies about farm animals and inspiring information for school councils.
The RSPCA’s website for teachers is a fantastic source of practical and useful advice on the best way to keep pets in schools. In order to make sure a school pet is looked after responsibly, and has all its need met, teachers can make sure that pupils understand what is required to keep the school pets happy and well.
There’s also a raft of colourful and creative animal-related images, activities, interactive resources, lesson plans and assemblies related to all the main curriculum subject areas and key stages 1 to 4. From PDFs describing how to make a butterfly bird feeder, to templates and instructions on creating an insect hotel, children can learn about the habitat and needs of animals and have fun at the same time.
Visit their website to take a look at the free teaching resources.
