Free interactive resource from the world of horse racing for students to practise their enterprise skills.
RaceDay for schools uses the context of owning a horse and managing a race course to deliver some key educational principles around enterprise and business studies.
The activities are all targeted at the learning requirements of 11-16 year olds, particularly around Enterprise, Work-Related Learning and Citizenship.
For Key Stage 3 (KS3) the resource is particularly strong on all aspects of economic wellbeing and financial capability within PSHE in the National Curriculum and for Key Stage 4 (KS4) it can be used for many elements of a Business Studies GCSE syllabus. There is also a section in the resource on careers in the horseracing industry.
Curriculum links are provided for England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.
Students get a unique insight into the world of horse racing as they learn business and enterprise skills such as marketing, decision-making, leadership and financial capability.
Tasks are of real world relevance such as designing the most efficient race course, creating an attractive hospitality package and managing their budget.
Its a flexible resource that can be dipped in and out of or completed in its entirety. In the Training Zone students develop their skills and knowledge with quizzes, case studies, and animated games. They can then proceed to the Race Day game where they actually see the impact of their decisions in a live race day culminating in all the excitement of the race itself.
