Resources, Information and Support For Teaching Primary Languages

The Primary Languages website is an excellent source of advice and information for those involved in teaching MFL. It covers professional development, teaching ideas and resources.

A useful French phonology module is available to help teachers develop their confidence and competence in using the French language. There are guides on developing active learning in the classroom when learning a new language as well as material on embedding MFL as discrete lessons and through a cross-curricular approach. For those leading MFL, information on progression in this area of the curriculum and assessment can be found.

The resources section of the website contains links to schemes of work that have been developed for MFL at Key Stage 2. These cover French, Spanish and German. However, other schemes of work for less commonly taught European languages can be found. Links to online resources to support teaching and learning of a language can also be found.
