Inspiring resources on sustainability, climate change, renewable energy and global learning
Learning and Teaching Resources
If you’re looking for inspiring science, D&T and geography resources which integrate global issues into your teaching then take a look at Practical Action’s website
Practical Action provides a range of free innovative STEM and Geography resources set in a global context. All the resources are linked to the national curriculum and designed to enhance your teaching.
Practical Action’s STEM challenges are their most popular resources. Choose from their global CREST challenges, the squashed tomato challenge, wind power challenge to name a few.
From the new renewable energy resources page you can download or order a set of free posters; check out the wind power challenge; look at their "top ten reasons why renewable energy is cool"; download lesson plans for the popular Moja island activity; watch videos of renewable energy in action and follow the links to recommended resources. The D & T area is a lifesaver for secondary school teachers looking to integrate sustainability into their teaching. It includes evaluation tools, activities on the 6R’s and design briefs for all the material areas.
The climate change area has video clips, including the effect of climate change on people in Kenya; a climate change wordsearch and material specifically designed to meet the KS2 curriculum focusing on climate change and the link with food.
The recently added geography area includes videos and case studies of Practical Action’s work with poor people around the world, covering food and agriculture, climate change adaptation, flooding and more
