Resources For Teaching History In Key Stage 2 That Recognise The Contribution Of Migrants
During Key Stage 2, children may be taught topics such as ‘The Victorians’, ‘Britain Since 1948’ or more broadly about the diversity of people and places. This website provides information and activities to enable children to think about the contributions of different minority groups.
The website contains a section dedicated to the lives of Victorian immigrants. Children learn about what life was like in Britain during this historical period and how migrants coming to the country played a role in how it developed. There are interactive online activities and accompanying activity sheets for children to record their learning on. The role of people in British colonies is explored, as are the experiences of people who journey from all over Europe to live in England.
The materials on Britain since 1948 consider the development of Britain in terms of food, culture, entertainment and faith groups as people moved to the country.
This is an excellent resource for raising children’s awareness that the development of life in Britain was shaped by different groups in the past.
