Bringing Shakespeare to Children with Royal Shakespeare Company Resources
Resources for teaching Shakespeare can be found on this website. These cover ‘The Tempest’, photo galleries for ‘The Tempest’, and materials that can be adapted when studying ‘Macbeth’.
The education packs use the principles of the Royal Shakespeare Company for using his works in schools: do it, see it and experience it early. Summaries of the stories can be found in the packs. There are detailed notes and guidance that provide background to the text, suggested fragments to use with children and ways in which activities can be organised and run so access to Shakespeare’s narratives and characters is supported.
Many of the resources are linked to actual productions so some of the education packs include cross-curricular activities, such as prop design or puppetry drawing on Design Technology. The packs include links to relevant websites that support or complement the activities suggested.
Through using these packs or other resources related to Shakespeare’s texts, it is possible to create a sequence of lessons that bring his work to life and foster an interest and enthusiasm for the playwright.
