Resources For Teaching Pupils About The Globe Theatre

Arguably, understanding the plays of Shakespeare can be best achieved by seeing the words performed live on stage. This website provides information on courses and workshops that are available.

The Globe Theatre can provide guided visits to the theatre and workshops based on the school’s choice of Shakespeare play, which supports the National Curriculum programme of study. There are also workshops that enable pupils to practically explore the theatre space of The Globe and how this influenced the style of performance and language used in Shakespeare’s plays.

There are research materials that can be accessed about performances of Shakespeare’s plays at The Globe Theatre. These cover how the play was prepared for performance on the stage, rehearsal processes, the play in performance and discoveries made about the play and performance in the course of producing a show. This may be useful for KS3 pupils in considering how a performance is developed from the page to stage.
