Free ICT KS2 Teaching Resources for Primary Teachers
The Curriculum and Learning
At Key Stage 2, children use a wider range of ICT tools. They develop their research skills and decide on which information is relevant to their work. Children learn how to amend their work and present it in an appropriate way for an audience. These skills can be used to support learning in other areas of the curriculum. They build on knowledge previously gained from KS1. Children are also taught how to use the internet so that they stay safe and ensure that they never give out personal information about themselves.
In the Finding Things Out strand of the National Curriculum, children select suitable sources of information and learn to check it for accuracy. Within the Developing Ideas and Making Things Happen strand, children bring their ideas together using different features of desktop publishing packages and multimedia presentation software. They use simulations and models to investigate. In the Exchanging and Sharing Information aspect of the curriculum, children share information in a variety of forms appropriate to the needs of the intended audience.
In order to show their skills, children can sometimes be asked to create a document or presentation on a subject topic or something of their choice. Skills will be seen through the actions they choose on these pieces of software, for example; the use of colours, transitions and movement on powerpoint.
Teacher Support
Some of the resources in this section can support teachers and schools in publishing online. They can also help involve children in developing digital communications. There are also materials to develop teacher confidence and competence in using ICT within their day-to-day practice to enhance teaching and learning.
ThinkQuest is a great site for teachers to create projects and share them with others. They can gain other poeiples projects. Through this they can learn more about their own subject and also learn new ideas about how to teach and present.
