Pupils learn to be enterprising. This means that they develop their ability to handle uncertainty, respond positively to change, implement new ideas and ways of doing things. As part of the curriculum, pupils at Key Stage 4 make realistic and creative plans to make things happen. Learning from mistakes is encouraged and decisions pupils make are informed by risk and reward assessments they make. Enterprise forms part of the Economic Well-Being and Financial Capability curriculum, fostering links between school-based learning and skills that are valuable in the world of work. Pupils can apply the skills, qualities and attributes through engaging in projects that can have cross-curricular reach.
At Key Stage 4, it is expected that pupils will show drive and self-reliance when focused on work-related tasks. They become more aware of specific attitudes for enterprise: self-reliance, open-mindedness, taking account of evidence and a commitment to making things happen.
The resources in this section can be used to promote enterprise by providing materials and inspiration for devising opportunities and contexts in which pupils can identify skills needed, develop them and apply them to achieve a purpose.
