At Key Stage 4, pupils develop essential skills for life. They increase their use of technical skills and techniques as well as understanding of how to apply these purposefully in learning, daily life and the workplace. A responsible approach is an essential aspect as ICT raises social, ethical, legal and economic issues about its use. They take part in informed discussion about the use of ICT and the impact it has on society from different perspectives.

Pupils experience increasingly demanding problems and more complex information in ICT at Key Stage 4. They manage information, storage and access to content to make retrieval efficient. ICT is used to help pupils manage themselves, their work and their learning. It is applied to real-world situations.

At Key Stage 4, pupils design and implement systems suited to a variety of contexts. They develop, test and modify sequences of instructions in an ICT system to solve problems. Audience and user feedback support them in refining their ICT solutions.

The materials in this section provide teaching ideas and resources that can be incorporated into schemes of work to meet the curricular requirements for Key Stage 4 ICT.
